~ sumida river hanabi ~

morning was spent with cooper in a small park in hiroo (mainly expat area). nice town with nice cafes. later in the evening, met friends for fireworks at sumida river. this is reportedly the biggest fireworks event in tokyo every year. Nearly one million people turn up every year for this event. True enough, it was packed. Even though we arrived as early as 5pm to "reserve" seats, we did not get the best seats. The park was already packed with people waiting. Temperature was cool by the time the fireworks started, so it was good. Fireworks was only ok. Did not find it spectacular. Nonetheless, it was worth the effort to "dress up" for this event. Going to wear my "yukata" for a few more summer events this year at least. Enjoy the pics.

had to bring cooper to the stream to wash his legs as it was dirty. he ran into a muddy patch. 2 men fishing by the pond. short fishing rods huh? one of the cafes in hiroo area. maryanne. if only she had her yukata too.. our bentos. 3 japanese school girls who kindly posed for us. my yukata..traffic policmen directing the one million crowd to the various train stations. we had to wait for about 1 hr before we were allowed into our train station..phew!
